Veteran’s Day Parade

Veteran’s Day is officially the 11th day of November. The holiday was initially to commemorate the end of the World War (World War I) as the truce went into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Over the years, it has morphed to honor all Veteran’s of military service.

Since 1995, FOW&J has participated in the Veteran’s Day Parade in Auburn, WA. Auburn’s parade is billed as the largest parade west of the Mississippi. It has about 200 participants to include military and veterans’ groups, marching bands and all the other stuff that should be part of a military appreciation parade including an enthusiastic crowd. The parade route is about 1.5 miles. Usually the parade occurs on the Saturday prior to Nov 11 and starts at 11am.

When we first started participating in the parade, we were exclusively a dismounted group walking just like the infantry is known to do. Over the years, our motor pool has grown to include a good representation of common US Army wheeled vehicles.
